ADVISORY PROCESS
How an Engagement Works
A clear scope and a fixed fee, agreed before any work begins.
Initial Enquiry
Tell us about your company, refinery and the support you need.
Readiness Assessment
We review your profile against SOMO’s published criteria and tell you honestly whether we can help. Only SOMO determines eligibility.
Advisory Engagement
A written scope and fixed fee, then guidance and documentation checklists for your own application.
Additional Advisory Support
Where required, shipping, inspection and documentary payment guidance within the agreed scope.
An advisory engagement does not guarantee an allocation or a shipment; those decisions rest solely with SOMO.
UNDERSTANDING SOMO’S PROCESS
How Iraqi Crude Oil Is Sold
Iraqi federal crude oil exports are marketed through the State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO). The following is a simplified overview of SOMO’s published procedures; requirements and contractual arrangements may vary and are subject to SOMO’s current policies.
- 01
Direct application
The purchasing company applies itself, from its official company email. SOMO’s published policy states that it does not consider applications submitted by hand or through intermediaries.
- 02
Eligibility review
A SOMO technical committee reviews each applicant’s activity against SOMO’s criteria.
- 03
Allocation decision
SOMO evaluates applications and determines eligibility, contractual arrangements and crude oil allocations through its applicable internal procedures.
- 04
Contract and lifting
Approved buyers proceed under the applicable contractual terms, including payment arrangements, vessel nomination and lifting procedures established by SOMO.
Our independence
PETROXIUM is an independent advisory service provider. We are not affiliated with SOMO or the Iraqi Ministry of Oil. We do not submit crude oil purchase applications, negotiate allocations or guarantee procurement outcomes. All official applications and contractual arrangements remain exclusively between the applicant and SOMO.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Crude Oil Advisory
Can you get us a SOMO crude oil allocation?
No. Allocations are decided solely by SOMO, through its own procedures. We help you understand the requirements and prepare your own application and logistics; we never arrange, promise or guarantee an allocation.
Are you affiliated with SOMO or the Ministry of Oil?
No. PETROXIUM is an independent advisory service provider, with no affiliation with SOMO, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil or any government body.
Do you submit the application or contact SOMO for us?
No. SOMO reviews applications sent directly by the purchasing company from its official email. All official communication, negotiation and contracting stays between you and SOMO.
Can a trading company apply?
Eligibility depends on SOMO’s current policies and the applicable crude oil marketing arrangements, and applicants should consult SOMO’s official requirements directly. SOMO has publicly described its crude oil customers as end users with refining capacity. PETROXIUM can help companies understand the published criteria, but cannot determine eligibility or secure approval.
Does PETROXIUM charge a commission on crude oil purchases?
No. PETROXIUM provides independent advisory services for an agreed professional fee. Our compensation is not linked to crude oil allocations, purchase volumes or the outcome of a SOMO application.
Do you deal in crude oil of other origins?
No. We work only with Iraqi crude oil sold by SOMO, supported by SOMO’s documentation and independent inspection. We do not handle oil of any sanctioned origin.
